13 miles north of Alexandria, Minnesota is a 630 acre body of water named Lake Irene (lakeirene.com). With a maximum depth of 43 feet, it is known as a good lake for fishing and recreation. Besides the proximity to Alexandria, Miltona, Parkers Prairie and Carlos, I like that Irene is fairly undeveloped so it is peaceful, pretty and quiet.
Chet's Lakeside restaurant is located on the west side of Lake Irene and has been around for over 40 years featuring a full menu and their specialty, broasted chicken. I highly recommend it.
Lake Irene was named after Irene Roadruck, daughter of a prominent land owners in the area. The first name of Irene's mother was Miltona (this is where Lake Miltona and the city obtained their names). Lake Irene was first known as Reservation Lake on early maps.
