A public swimming beach (Le Homme Dieu Beach) on the southeast corner with lifeguards available during the summer months. There is also an unofficial swimming area (Rotary Beach) at the west side with no lifeguard on duty.
"Lake Le Homme Dieu is one of the most beautiful sheets of water in America" stated a National Geographic Magazine article. The northeastern shore area, called Interlachen Park, was named after Interlaken, Switzerland, which means 'between the lakes'. Le homme Dieu and Carlos were most likely named by Glendy King, an early homesteader in the area. Carlos and Le Homme Dieu were friends of King's at West Point Academy.
Le Homme Dieu means 'man of God' in French. The proper spelling is L'homme Dieu with a pronunciation of "lumm due" but the majority of locals pronounce it "la homma due".
